about us

In 2015, I had a miscarriage and felt there was no support/advice after an early pregnancy loss. I had two children after - Robyn and Mikey, however I wanted to create a space for women and men where members could receive support, information and advice as well as understand they are not alone going through this traumatic experience.

Our aims for MISS are: to raise more awareness about miscarriage, give support to anyone (no matter of their background, gender or age), encourage individuals to speak out and be open about their experience, gain new friends from attending groups. We have several goals and plans for the future which include: quarterly fundraising events to raise awareness and donations for MISS; have a strong relationship with Aberdeen Maternity Hospital, local medical centres and charities. Also Robert Gordon University for student placements; increase our followers and members on social media and support groups; sell MISS merchandise. Our next AGM is in October 2020.

meet the team

MISS follows the OSCR (Scottish Charity Regulator) guidelines for Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) status which is under the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005. Therefore we have a Chairperson, Sectretary and Treasurer and Committee Members which meet on a monthly basis to discuss matters arising, chairpersons and treasurers report, fundraising/events and any other business.

VICE-CHAIR

jade robertson

“I decided to volunteer for MISS because after my first miscarriage, I found there was no support within Aberdeen. When I discovered Abi had set up MISS, I knew straight away that it was something I wanted to get involved in and help.”

treasurer

carol macleod

“I ensure our financial records are accurate and we meet the necessary reporting obligations required of a register charity. Having had my own struggles with infertility I think the charity provides a great service for those seeking support from others who have ensured similar experiences and also somewhere to turn to for advice.”

secretary

Ioana Trandafir

“I have been part of this family for almost two years starting as a placement from RGU and then continued to stay where I was chosen to be Secretary. I am glad that I can continue to help the group with some of my knowledge.”

fundraising/ events coordinator

fiona cumming

“I was approached by Abi through my role as Community Champion at Asda Dyce to see if I could help in any way. As I had gone through a miscarriage with my first pregnancy, I was more than willing to help wherever I can.”

committee member

Claire taylor

“I chose to support MISS after seeing the effects a loss has on families. I work within the maternity hospital and I have supported women/partners through their losses and have an insight in how things could be improved.”
